With the holidays right around the corner, we're sharing with you some of our favorite places to pick up plants, and where we find the small ones that you see us use in our planters. We spend a good amount of time in New York City*, and we'd like to share our recommendations for where to find them with you!
New York Flower Market
On 28th Street between 6th and 7th avenue in Midtown Manhattan
Contrary to how it sounds, the New York Flower Market is not one store, but a block in Midtown Manhattan that is home to several flower and plant stores. We've covered visiting the Flower Market before, and its still one of our favorite places in the city to pick up plants and flowers when we visit. Several stores also carry other items you might need for floral arrangements, like vases, ribbons, floral foam, and wires. Some stores accept only business customers, so make sure to ask before you fall in love with any possible purchases.
Chelsea Garden Center
87 Havemeyer St., Brooklyn, NY
Chelsea Garden Center has moved since we last visited, but they have a great selection of succulents, seeds, and plants for landscaping.
The Gift Shop at Brooklyn Botanical Garden
Here's an amazing secret you may not know: many botanical gardens sell houseplants, tropical plants, and seeds and bulbs with gifts. On our last visit to the Gardens, we were able to pick up some tillandsia and seeds. If you're visiting the garden, stop by and pick up some plants as well!
*As a note, this list is not comprehensive of all of the places to find plants in and around New York, but these are the businesses that we know and recommend. If you have another business to recommend for this list, please let us know! Also, large chain stores are not included in this list, but will be included in a later post.
